Heavyweight showdown between Towolawi and Kazeem headlines explosive Lagos fight night
Boxers set to feature in Saturday’s Prize Fighting event at the Indoor Sports Hall, Surulere, Lagos, have talked tough ahead of their bouts, with several vowing to floor their opponents.
The fight card, which will be streamed live on the Prize Fighting TV website, features four thrilling matchups headlined by a heavyweight clash between Kabiru Towolawi and undefeated Samson Kazeem.
Towolawi, who boasts a professional record of 26–15, promised to dominate his opponent, who enters the ring with an unblemished 8–0 record.
“I am going to dominate and knock him out. I’m training for Ike Ibeabuchi since Afinni disappointed us. They’ve brought this buffalo here, but he’s big for nothing,” Towolawi declared.
Kazeem, however, remained confident, insisting he would make his more experienced opponent retire.
“I’m going to make you run out of the ring. Everything you’re talking about is history. I’m not scared of his record. I’ll make him retire,” Kazeem fired back.
His coach, Kehinde Aweda, further heightened the stakes by offering a financial challenge:
“If Towolawi beats him, I’ll give him ₦100,000 right after the fight.”
Other bouts include super-lightweight contests between Sadam Oladipupo and Akintunde Abolade, Temitope Ademulure and Adeogun Awwal, as well as Samuel ‘Apataroro’ Moses versus Bartholomew Abuchi.
Moses vowed to secure a knockout victory, while Abuchi countered that he was “ready to silence him in the ring.”
President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, praised the promoter, Miyen Akiri, for his commitment to Nigerian boxing.
“We at the NBBofC are happy to partner with you. Your last promotion for Ike Ibeabuchi was the talk of the town globally,” Ladipo said.
Akiri expressed excitement about showcasing Nigerian boxing to a global audience, assuring fans of a world-class event.
“The good thing is that people all over the world can watch live for free via the Prize Fighting TV website,” he said.
Secretary-General of the NBBofC, Remi Aboderin, also lauded the promoter for “planning to change the face of Nigerian boxing.”
Akiri added that if Towolawi wins, he would work to secure a matchup for him against Ibeabuchi.
