Disaster in Oba-Eerin: Fake Roads and Collapsed Bridges Threaten Entire Community

Oba-Eerin locals warn of worsening destruction after substandard road reconstruction leaves homes and bridges at risk.

Residents of Oba-Eerin in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, have appealed to both federal and state authorities to intervene urgently following what they describe as ongoing hardship, danger, and destruction caused by a poorly reconstructed road linking Mosun Village to Oba-Eerin.

Speaking to Saving Point Media, residents said persistent flooding has forced many families out of their homes, citing substandard drainage systems and culverts constructed with inferior materials by True Tech Construction Ltd (Civil and Building Engineering). They explained that the shoddy construction has led to the collapse of several houses, while other homes remain inaccessible due to severe waterlogging.

According to the community, nearly all bridges along the route have already collapsed, intensifying the crisis. A local leader questioned why the road, initially built during the administration of former Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, was re-awarded to what she called an incompetent contractor without proper government oversight to ensure quality standards.

She further alleged that public water pipelines serving the entire community were destroyed during the reconstruction, leaving residents without access to clean water. Many now walk long distances to fetch water, while others pay as much as ₦2,000 to vendors for water.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts to develop their community, residents urged immediate action to compel the contractor to properly reconstruct the affected section of the Mosun–Oba-Eerin road. They warned that ongoing flooding puts many buildings at risk of collapse.

Residents also claimed that bridges rebuilt with 8mm iron rods after demolishing original concrete and iron-fenced structures erected over two decades ago collapsed within just two weeks of reconstruction.

The community is now appealing to well-meaning Nigerians and government authorities to intervene before the town faces further destruction, stressing that Oba-Eerin could be at risk of extinction if urgent corrective measures are not taken.
