Jakarta Police confirm dozens injured following an explosion near a local high school as bomb squad and emergency responders seal off the area.
An explosion near a high school in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Friday has left at least 54 people injured, authorities confirmed.
According to Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri, the blast occurred “in the vicinity of a high school” in the Indonesian capital, though the cause remains under investigation.
“We have approximately 54 individuals affected — some with minor injuries, some moderate, and some already discharged,” Suheri said in a televised briefing carried by Kompas TV.
Police have cordoned off the area while bomb disposal experts from Jakarta Police’s Explosive Ordnance Unit comb the scene for evidence.
Emergency posts have also been set up at two nearby hospitals to help families locate missing or injured loved ones.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the explosion was accidental or an act of sabotage.
Suheri added, “We are processing the crime scene and gathering forensic evidence. Investigations are ongoing.”
The Indonesian National Police urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports on social media as officials continue to assess the incident.
