Nigerian celebrity chef sets another global record after cooking 8,780kg of jollof rice in Lagos, becoming the first Nigerian to hold two Guinness World Records.
Nigeria’s renowned culinary sensation, Chef Hilda Baci, has once again etched her name in global history after receiving her second Guinness World Record plaque, officially recognising her achievement for cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
According to Guinness World Records (GWR), Baci prepared 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a Lagos cookout in September 2024, a feat that has now been verified as the largest ever recorded.
This new milestone comes just over a year after she clinched her first world title for completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon in May 2023 — a record that captivated millions worldwide.
With both achievements, Hilda Baci becomes Nigeria’s first and most decorated chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records.
Sharing the news via her Instagram page, the chef expressed gratitude and excitement, describing her double feat as a “story of faith, fire, and history.”
“Our plaques are finally here! Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history. Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria,” she wrote.
Baci also reflected on the spiritual and emotional journey behind her success, quoting Isaiah 61:7, saying:
“Instead of shame, you will receive a double portion… and everlasting joy will be yours.”
She noted that both records celebrated Nigerian creativity, culinary excellence, and resilience, adding that her collaboration with Gino Foods helped amplify the impact of her jollof rice challenge, which reached an estimated five billion people globally.
“Together with Gino, we created something bigger than ourselves, a story that reminded the world what’s possible when passion meets purpose,” she added.
The Jollof Rice Cookout, held in Lagos, drew a massive crowd of over 20,000 food lovers, celebrities, and influencers.
All portions of the massive jollof dish were distributed to guests and charity organisations, in line with Guinness World Records’ verification standards.
With her second global recognition, Baci continues to inspire a new generation of African chefs — proving that passion, creativity, and consistency can place Nigerian cuisine on the world stage.
