Guiding Light Assembly’s Pastor Wale Adefarasin has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, saying the killings are not new and questioning the West’s sudden concern.
Lagos-based clergyman, Pastor Wale Adefarasin of the Guiding Light Assembly, has reacted to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused Nigeria of permitting a “Christian genocide.”
Speaking during Sunday service on November 2, Adefarasin said such incidents have occurred for decades and do not amount to genocide.
“In over forty years that I have been a Christian, there have been killings in Southern Kaduna and on the Plateau. It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to genocide,” he said.
He questioned the motives behind the West’s newfound interest in Nigeria’s religious issues, wondering if it was connected to the country’s growing oil independence and discovery of rare minerals.
“Is it because we now have one of the largest refineries in the world or because of the 21st-century minerals they need for electric vehicles?” he asked.
Adefarasin called for discernment, urging Nigerians to look beyond global narratives and focus on national unity.
