Security operatives have taken over Eruku, a town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, following the circulation of a disturbing video showing bandits attacking worshippers during a service at CAC Church Oke-Isegun.
The video, which went viral earlier today, captured the chaotic final moments before the gunmen stormed the church, causing panic as congregants fled for safety.
Community Spokesman, Ayeni Olanipekun, confirmed the latest development to Vanguard, stating that soldiers have now moved into key areas of the community in response to the attack and to prevent a possible resurgence.
According to Olanipekun, residents have been living in fear since the incident occurred, but the arrival of the military has restored a sense of hope and temporary relief. He noted that security personnel have positioned themselves strategically around the town and are working in collaboration with local vigilantes to secure the surrounding forest routes often used by criminal elements.
The Kwara State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement, but sources in the community say surveillance efforts and combing operations have intensified since the attack went public.
The incident adds to growing concerns over rural insecurity in parts of North Central Nigeria, where bandit groups continue to target worship centres, schools, and remote communities.
Residents are calling for sustained military presence until the attackers are apprehended and lasting peace is restored.
