Benin-based military command distributes food items and cash gifts to honour sacrifices of deceased officers and boost morale of their families
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of fallen heroes’ families with the distribution of Christmas food items and monetary support, aimed at appreciating their sacrifices and easing the burden of the festive season.
Brigadier-General Ahmed Balogun, Commander of the Nigerian Army in Benin, disclosed that the initiative was designed to express gratitude to the families of officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He noted that beyond ceremonial remembrance, the Army remains intentional about providing tangible support to those left behind.
According to Brig.-Gen. Balogun, the gesture reflects the Army’s enduring bond with its personnel and their families, emphasizing that the sacrifices of fallen soldiers will never be forgotten. He explained that the Christmas outreach was also meant to offer encouragement, reassurance, and a sense of belonging to the families during a period traditionally associated with togetherness.
Beneficiaries received essential food supplies alongside cash gifts, helping to cushion economic pressures and ensure a more meaningful celebration.
