Tinubu Announces Arrival of Four U.S.-Made Attack Helicopters to Boost Nigeria’s Security Operations

President says advanced aircraft will strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in Nigeria from the United States, marking a significant boost to the nation’s security and defence capabilities.

The President disclosed this while speaking on the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Armed Forces and confront rising security challenges across the country. According to him, the arrival of the helicopters forms part of a broader strategy to modernise Nigeria’s military hardware and enhance operational effectiveness in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime.

Tinubu noted that the acquisition of the attack helicopters reflects his administration’s commitment to prioritising national security and protecting lives and property. He said the aircraft would significantly improve air support for troops on the ground, especially in hard-to-reach terrains where criminal elements often operate.

The President added that beyond equipment procurement, the government is also investing in intelligence gathering, personnel training, and international security cooperation to ensure a more coordinated and effective response to security threats. He stressed that restoring peace and stability remains central to his Renewed Hope Agenda, as security is critical to economic growth and national development.

Security analysts have described the incoming helicopters as a strategic addition, capable of providing rapid response, surveillance, and precision strikes against hostile targets. They believe the development could strengthen Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and organized criminal activities.

The Federal Government has reiterated that efforts to secure the nation will continue, with more initiatives expected to enhance the capacity of the military and other security agencies in the coming months.
