The Ogun State Government has directed that graduation ceremonies in both public and private schools be limited to terminal classes only, as part of efforts to regulate end-of-session activities across the state.
According to the directive, only pupils and students completing the final level of their respective educational stages will be permitted to hold graduation ceremonies. The policy applies to all public and private educational institutions operating within the state.
The government said the measure is intended to promote discipline within the education sector and discourage the growing practice of organising multiple graduation ceremonies for non-terminal classes, which often place unnecessary financial pressure on parents and guardians.
Education authorities also urged school administrators to ensure full compliance with the directive and to conduct all end-of-session activities in line with established guidelines issued by the state government.
Stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that limiting graduation ceremonies to terminal classes will help restore the original purpose of such events while reducing excessive spending associated with repeated school celebrations.
The directive forms part of the Ogun State Government's broader efforts to strengthen standards within the education sector and promote policies that prioritise quality learning, responsible school administration, and the welfare of parents and students.
Schools across the state are expected to align their academic calendars and end-of-session programmes with the new policy as implementation begins.
