Dangote Refinery Resumes Petrol Sales Under Revised Distribution Framework

Facility restarts Premium Motor Spirit supply to major marketers and depot operators with regulatory approval

Dangote Refinery has resumed the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to major marketers and depot owners under a revised distribution framework approved by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The development marks a significant step in the refinery’s commercial operations as it strengthens domestic fuel supply and expands access to locally refined petroleum products. Industry stakeholders say the resumption is expected to improve market availability and enhance supply stability across distribution channels.

According to regulatory authorities, the revised framework outlines updated guidelines for lifting, pricing transparency, and supply coordination to ensure seamless distribution between the refinery, marketers, and depot operators. Officials emphasize that the structure is designed to promote efficiency, accountability, and alignment with existing petroleum sector regulations.

Market analysts note that increased output from the refinery could reduce reliance on imported fuel and contribute to greater competition within the downstream sector. The move is also seen as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening local refining capacity and improving energy security.

Major marketers and depot owners have reportedly begun lifting products under the new arrangement, signaling operational momentum in the supply chain. Authorities and industry players say continuous collaboration between regulators and private operators will be key to sustaining stability in petrol distribution nationwide.
