Civil Servants Demand ₦154,000 Minimum Wage, 120% Allowance Review Amid Rising Hardship

Workers push for urgent wage adjustment as cost of living pressures intensify nationwide

Civil servants across Nigeria have called for the implementation of a ₦154,000 minimum wage alongside a 120 percent review of allowances, citing worsening economic hardship and rising cost of living.

The demand comes amid growing concerns over inflation, increased fuel prices and the general decline in purchasing power, which workers say have significantly affected their standard of living.

Labour representatives noted that the current wage structure is no longer sustainable, stressing that many civil servants are struggling to meet basic needs, including housing, transportation and food.

According to the workers, a comprehensive review of salaries and allowances is necessary to reflect present economic realities and ensure fair compensation for public sector employees.

They also urged the Federal Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with labour unions to address the concerns and implement policies that would improve workers’ welfare.

Stakeholders say the outcome of these demands could have significant implications for the economy, particularly in balancing government expenditure with the need to support the workforce during a period of financial strain.
