Ride-hailing transport drivers operating in Lagos have commenced a three-day shutdown strike following unresolved concerns over rising operational costs and declining earnings.
The drivers, who operate through popular ride-hailing platforms across the state, suspended their services as part of efforts to draw attention to challenges affecting their livelihoods.
According to representatives of the drivers, increasing fuel prices, vehicle maintenance expenses, platform commissions and other operational costs have significantly reduced their earnings in recent months.
They also expressed concerns about fare structures and working conditions within the ride-hailing sector, stating that several issues previously raised with stakeholders remain unresolved.
The strike is expected to affect transportation services in parts of Lagos where many commuters rely heavily on ride-hailing platforms for daily mobility.
Drivers involved in the action say the shutdown is intended to push for dialogue with platform operators and relevant authorities to address their concerns and improve conditions within the sector.
