The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has raised concerns over the growing involvement of university students in internet fraud activities popularly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
He stated that a significant proportion of young people in tertiary institutions are becoming increasingly exposed to cybercrime, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s future workforce and national development.
According to him, the situation is particularly alarming within universities, where he claimed that a large number of students are being drawn into fraudulent online activities driven by the desire for quick financial gains.
The EFCC chairman noted that the commission is intensifying efforts to combat cybercrime through enforcement, awareness campaigns, and collaboration with educational institutions to discourage students from engaging in illegal activities.
