Fix Nigeria’s address problem or keep losing parcels, Tola Odeyemi warns as she outlines delivery reforms

NIPOST Postmaster-General, Tola Odeyemi, details sweeping logistics, financial services expansion, rural penetration, and new partnerships aimed at fixing Nigeria’s long-standing delivery and address system challenges.

At a conversational engagement with The Progressives NG on X themed “From Missing Parcels to No Address – Fixing Nigeria’s Delivery Problem,” the Postmaster-General/CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Tola Odeyemi, spotlighted ongoing reforms designed to reposition the postal agency as a central driver of logistics, financial inclusion, and national connectivity.

Odeyemi explained that NIPOST currently operates two key financial frameworks; the Super Agent License and the Postal Financial Services License which have strengthened its role in expanding access to financial services across underserved communities.

Addressing accountability within the system, she noted that theft or mishandling of parcels attracts strict consequences, including reimbursement of the parcel’s full value and outright dismissal of responsible personnel, stressing that internal reforms are gradually rebuilding public trust in the institution.

She also highlighted NIPOST’s expanding role in national development projects, including the distribution of NIN registration devices to rural areas, support for NIBSS network expansion into hard-to-reach communities, and assistance for pensioners in completing pension registration processes.

According to her, NIPOST now offers some of the most competitive remittance rates in Nigeria’s financial services space, while also strengthening its logistics footprint across health, agriculture, and government supply chains.

Odeyemi disclosed that the agency currently operates in every local government area, with about 60 percent of its network concentrated in rural communities and 40 percent in urban centres. She added that NIPOST is actively involved in specialized health logistics in collaboration with agencies such as NACA and NALDA, particularly in transporting bio-specimens to laboratory networks nationwide.

She further revealed partnerships with cargo firms to prioritise sensitive and high-value deliveries, as well as the introduction of improved tracking systems that now allow real-time monitoring of inbound and outbound items.

In a push toward digital transformation, she noted that NIPOST has also launched a payment integration with Paystack, aimed at simplifying customer transactions and improving user experience across its services.
