Nigeria Launches New Air Cargo Corridor With RwandAir

Direct export routes to Kigali, Lusaka and Harare expected to boost regional trade and non-oil exports

Nigeria has launched a new air cargo corridor in partnership with RwandAir, creating direct export routes for Nigerian exporters to Kigali, Lusaka, and Harare as part of efforts to strengthen regional trade and export-driven economic growth.

The announcement was made by Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, who said the initiative is designed to improve market access for Nigerian goods across Africa.

According to the ministry, the new cargo corridor is expected to support exporters by reducing logistics barriers, improving transportation efficiency, and expanding opportunities for non-oil exports within the African market.

The direct routes will connect Nigerian businesses to Kigali, Lusaka, and Harare, strengthening trade integration and supporting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Industry stakeholders believe the development could enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian products, particularly agricultural produce, manufactured goods, and small business exports, while also reducing delivery timelines and trade costs.

Analysts note that improved cargo connectivity remains critical to expanding intra-African trade and positioning Nigeria as a stronger participant in regional commerce and logistics.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to diversify the economy, increase export earnings, and improve Nigeria’s role within Africa’s growing trade and transportation network.
