The United States Department of Defense has announced the elimination of a senior ISIS deputy reportedly linked to violent attacks and killings in Nigeria.
According to Pete Hegseth, the extremist figure was considered a second-in-command within the terrorist network and was allegedly responsible for coordinating attacks against Christian communities and civilians in parts of Nigeria.
Hegseth stated that the operation formed part of broader international counterterrorism efforts aimed at weakening extremist groups operating across Africa and other regions.
Security analysts say terrorist organisations linked to ISIS have remained active in parts of West Africa, carrying out attacks against civilians, security personnel, and religious communities, particularly in areas affected by insurgency and instability.
The development has renewed discussions around regional security cooperation, intelligence sharing, and sustained military operations against extremist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin and surrounding regions.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of coordinated international efforts in combating terrorism and improving security across affected communities.
