Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has declared that his group is prepared for either peace negotiations or armed confrontation with the Nigerian government, while claiming responsibility for recent attacks on security operatives in parts of the North-West.
In a viral video reportedly recorded in Hausa and dated June 20, Turji, who appeared masked and surrounded by armed men dressed in military-style camouflage, alleged that his group carried out the attacks in response to operations they claimed targeted members of their communities and their livestock.
The wanted bandit leader stated that while his group remains open to dialogue with the authorities, it is equally prepared for continued armed conflict if negotiations fail. He also claimed that his fighters had successfully resisted security operations in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states.
Turji's latest remarks come amid ongoing military offensives against armed groups operating across Nigeria's North-West, where attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling have continued to pose significant security challenges.
The Federal Government has consistently maintained that security operations against bandit groups will continue as part of broader efforts to restore peace and protect lives and property in affected communities. Authorities have not officially responded to Turji's latest claims at the time of filing this report.
