Buratai Says Bandits Can Be Located if Security Agencies Are Determined

Former Army Chief calls for stronger intelligence and sustained security operations

Former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai has stated that bandits operating across parts of Nigeria can be located if security agencies are fully committed to tracking and neutralising criminal elements.

Buratai made the remark while speaking on the country’s security challenges, arguing that the whereabouts of armed groups can be identified through effective intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated security operations.

According to the retired lieutenant general, modern security capabilities and intelligence networks provide opportunities for authorities to detect, monitor, and respond to criminal activities, provided there is sustained commitment and operational coordination.

His comments come amid ongoing concerns over banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats affecting several communities across the country.

Security experts have consistently highlighted the importance of intelligence-driven operations, inter-agency collaboration, and technological support in combating armed criminal groups and improving public safety.

Buratai's remarks add to the broader national conversation on strategies for addressing insecurity, with stakeholders continuing to call for stronger measures to protect lives, secure communities, and restore public confidence in the country's security architecture.
