The Japanese government has approved a significant increase in visa application fees for Nigerians and other foreign nationals, introducing new charges that will take effect from July 1.
Under the revised fee structure, the cost of obtaining a single-entry visa will increase from ¥3,000 (about $18.60) to ¥15,000 (about $92.99), representing a fivefold rise.
Similarly, the fee for a multiple-entry visa will increase from ¥6,000 (about $37.20) to ¥30,000 (about $187.97) under the new policy.
The adjustment follows a revision of a related Cabinet order approved by the Japanese government as part of efforts to update its visa administration framework.
According to the new guidelines, the revised fees will apply to all visa applications submitted on or after July 1, while applications filed before the effective date will continue to be processed under the existing fee schedule.
The increase is expected to affect Nigerians planning to travel to Japan for tourism, business, education and other purposes, as well as applicants from other countries covered by the revised visa policy.
Prospective travellers have been advised to take note of the new charges and make necessary financial preparations ahead of submitting their visa applications under the updated fee regime.
