Borno Subsidises Fertiliser by 50%, Gives Free Farm Inputs to 120,000 Farmers

State government rolls out agricultural support programme to reduce farming costs, improve food production and support farmers.

The Borno State Government has announced a 50 per cent subsidy on fertiliser and the distribution of free agricultural inputs to 120,000 farmers across the state.

The intervention is aimed at reducing the cost of farming, increasing food production and supporting farmers as they prepare for the farming season.

Under the programme, beneficiaries are expected to receive essential farm inputs to help improve cultivation and reduce the financial burden caused by rising production costs.

The fertiliser subsidy will also allow farmers to purchase the important farm input at half the normal cost, making it more affordable for smallholder farmers.

The initiative comes at a time when farmers across Nigeria are struggling with high prices of fertiliser, seeds and other agricultural materials needed for food production.

The state government said the intervention is part of efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve food security and support the livelihoods of farming communities across Borno.

With 120,000 farmers expected to benefit from the free farm inputs, the programme is also expected to encourage increased cultivation and improve agricultural output in the state.

The government maintained that supporting farmers remains important to addressing food shortages, reducing poverty and rebuilding livelihoods in communities affected by years of insecurity.
