Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has cautioned that tribalism poses a significant threat to public safety, warning that ethnic division weakens cooperation, undermines trust and creates opportunities for criminal activities.
The advice is contained in Series #107 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness campaign dedicated to promoting public safety, national unity and responsible citizenship.
According to Yusuf, a peaceful and secure society is built on unity, justice and mutual respect. He noted that when people are treated fairly regardless of their tribe or ethnic background, trust grows, cooperation improves and communities become more resilient against crime and violence.
He explained that tribalism breeds division, suspicion and discrimination, making it more difficult for citizens and security agencies to work together effectively. Such divisions, he warned, can be exploited by criminals who thrive where communities are fragmented.
Yusuf urged Nigerians to reject every form of tribal prejudice and discrimination, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility that requires unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
"Security belongs to everyone. A society divided by tribalism weakens its own peace and safety."
