The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it is accelerating the deployment of digital identity systems, automated border controls and intelligence-led surveillance as part of efforts to strengthen security across Nigeria's borders.
The service said the measures are aimed at tightening border controls while ensuring that legitimate movement of people and cross-border trade are not unnecessarily disrupted.
The increased use of digital identity technology is expected to improve the identification and monitoring of travellers entering or leaving the country.
The NIS also plans to strengthen automated border processes and intelligence gathering to improve its ability to detect and respond to potential security threats.
The development comes amid broader efforts by the Federal Government to modernise Nigeria's border management system and enhance national security through technology.
The service said its approach would seek to balance stronger border security with efficient and lawful movement of people and goods.
