The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members to take advantage of its skills development programme to build sustainable businesses rather than depend solely on scarce salaried employment opportunities.
The NYSC said the programme is designed to equip corps members with practical, entrepreneurial and vocational skills that can help them create sources of income after their service year.
The scheme encouraged corps members to approach the programme not merely as an avenue for acquiring certificates or learning a trade, but as an opportunity to develop viable business ideas and become economically self-reliant.
According to the NYSC, Nigeria's competitive labour market makes it important for young people to develop additional skills that can translate into employment and business opportunities.
The programme is expected to expose corps members to entrepreneurship, vocational training and other areas that can help them establish businesses and create jobs for themselves and others.
The NYSC urged corps members to actively participate in the initiative and make practical use of the skills acquired during and after their service year.
