The 18 local government councils in Ondo State have commenced a welfare programme under which about 5,400 elderly residents will receive a monthly stipend of N20,000.
The initiative is designed to provide financial support to elderly residents and help ease the economic challenges faced by vulnerable members of the population.
Under the programme, beneficiaries across the state's 18 local government areas are expected to receive the monthly payment as part of efforts to strengthen social welfare and support vulnerable residents.
The scheme could provide a regular source of financial assistance to beneficiaries, particularly elderly people who may have limited income or depend on family members for their basic needs.
The programme also reflects growing efforts by governments at the sub-national level to introduce targeted welfare interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of vulnerable citizens.
With about 5,400 beneficiaries receiving N20,000 monthly, the programme represents a significant financial commitment by the local government councils towards elderly welfare in Ondo State.
