Security Expert and Public Safety Advocate Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has emphasised the importance of regular medical checkups as a critical component of personal safety, noting that many life-threatening health conditions can be detected and treated early through routine health screening.
In Series #111 of The Secure Mind, titled "Regular Medical Checkups Can Help Prevent Medical Emergencies," Yusuf highlighted the strong connection between good health and personal security, stressing that maintaining physical and mental well-being is essential for living a productive and safe life.
According to him, the pressures of modern life, including demanding work schedules, family responsibilities and everyday activities, can place significant strain on both the body and mind. Without regular health monitoring, many individuals may unknowingly develop medical conditions that could lead to sudden emergencies.
Yusuf explained that routine medical examinations, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, cholesterol screening and other age- or risk-appropriate assessments, play a crucial role in identifying health issues before they become severe.
He also encouraged Nigerians to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating balanced meals, engaging in regular physical exercise, getting adequate rest, managing stress effectively and seeking prompt medical attention whenever unusual symptoms or warning signs appear.
The security expert warned against self-medication and ignoring persistent health concerns, noting that early diagnosis and professional medical care significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce the risk of preventable complications.
He added that preventive healthcare not only protects individuals but also contributes to stronger families, healthier workplaces and more resilient communities.
Yusuf urged citizens to make routine health checks a regular part of their lives rather than waiting until illness becomes critical, describing prevention as one of the most effective investments anyone can make in their long-term well-being.
"Regular health checks and a balanced lifestyle can prevent many medical emergencies before they occur."
