The UK government has introduced a new 24-week target for decisions on asylum and immigration appeals as part of efforts to reduce lengthy waiting times in the system.
The government said the measure is aimed at speeding up the resolution of outstanding appeals and improving the efficiency of the immigration appeals process.
Under the new target, authorities will seek to ensure that eligible asylum and immigration appeals are decided within 24 weeks, reducing the time applicants spend waiting for a final decision.
The policy is also expected to accelerate the removal of people whose appeals are unsuccessful and who are found to have no legal right to remain in the United Kingdom.
The move forms part of broader UK government efforts to tackle the asylum backlog, improve case processing and strengthen immigration enforcement.
The government said reducing delays would provide greater certainty for applicants while allowing removal procedures to proceed more quickly where individuals are not entitled to remain in the country.
