The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that five transmission towers along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line have collapsed following extensive vandalism of the facilities.
TCN said the damage affected critical transmission infrastructure along the line, raising concerns over the reliability of electricity transmission in the affected areas.
The company condemned the vandalism, stressing that attacks on transmission facilities can disrupt power supply and create significant risks to electricity infrastructure.
TCN said efforts would be required to assess the extent of the damage and restore the affected transmission facilities.
The company also urged residents and communities to protect electricity infrastructure and report suspicious activities around transmission lines and towers to the appropriate authorities.
The latest incident highlights the continuing challenge of vandalism to Nigeria's power infrastructure and its potential impact on efforts to improve electricity supply across the country.
