Social commentator VeryDarkMan has responded to criticism over his invitation to speak at a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference, saying he was invited to share his experience rather than teach lawyers the law.
Addressing the gathering, he said:
“There has been a lot of debate about why I was invited to this NBA conference. I’m not here to teach you people law; I’m here to share experience.”
VeryDarkMan said those questioning his invitation may not have properly considered the topic of the session, which he referred to as “known gunmen.”
He argued that the discussion should go beyond legal language and courtroom formalities because insecurity affects lawyers and other Nigerians directly.
“This is not a topic of ‘may it please my lord’ because your lords are being kidnapped,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over insecurity and the kidnapping of Nigerians, including professionals and other high-profile individuals.
The appearance has generated reactions online, with supporters praising the NBA for creating room for perspectives outside traditional legal practice, while others continue to debate the decision to invite the social commentator.
