A UK-based Nigerian woman, Obiageli Juliana Okoro, has sparked online debate after advising people to cut off family members who only reach out when they need money.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Okoro said it was unfair for one person to shoulder all the family’s financial burdens, urging such individuals to “block” those who constantly demand assistance.
“If your family only calls you for financial help, block them,” she wrote. “You are more than two in your family, but you’re the only one they call for financial help! Block them! Block your family! If anything happens to you, they will move on sharply.”
Her post has since stirred mixed reactions, with some social media users agreeing that boundaries are necessary, while others argued that family responsibility should not be abandoned.
