US Revokes Wole Soyinka’s Visa Over Mysterious Embassy Snub

In a surprising diplomatic twist, the United States has revoked the visa of Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, following his refusal to honour an interview invitation from the US Embassy in Lagos.

Speaking at a press conference titled “Unending Saga: Idi Amin in Whiteface!” at Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka confirmed the development, saying, “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me.”

The literary icon revealed that the revocation was communicated in an official letter dated October 23, 2025, but no reason was stated.

The revoked B1/B2 visa had allowed him to travel for business and tourism.

This move comes amid the US government’s tighter border policies to control migration.

Soyinka’s global admirers have since expressed outrage, calling the action “disrespectful” to one of Africa’s greatest intellectuals.
