A multimedia journalist, Michael Orodare, has sparked fresh conversations online after criticizing individuals who lure young creatives with manipulative promises instead of offering fair compensation for their work.
In a strongly worded WhatsApp status update, Orodare described the trend as “disrespectful, manipulative, and cacodemonic,” calling out those who disguise exploitation as career opportunities.
According to his post, he finds it troubling when people approach professionals with statements such as “I want to help you,” “You’re going to gain a lot from this,” or “I have people up there who can do it better, I just like you and want to make you part of my team.”
Orodare said such tactics are often used to avoid paying for expert services, noting that genuine collaboration should be transparent and respectful.
“There are better ways to pitch your request and make people believe in your dream. Whether they are interested or not, they’ll let you know,” he wrote.
He warned that using false promises to exploit young creatives is “an unfair and wicked thing to do,” adding that such behaviour must stop “before we start posting curses.”
Orodare, known for his frequent commentary on trending political and social issues, has built a reputation for offering direct, solution-driven perspectives. His post has since generated reactions among creative professionals who say they relate to the challenges he highlighted.
