Super Eagles striker vows to stay calm under pressure as Nigeria advances after 4–1 extra-time victory over Gabon.
Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, has addressed reactions to his missed chances during the Super Eagles’ 4–1 extra-time victory over Gabon, saying he has learned to remain calm and focused under pressure.
In a video shared Thursday by sports journalist @iamcalisports, Osimhen said a striker’s job comes with highs and lows.
“Sometimes I score the goal no one expects, and sometimes I miss the one everyone thinks I will score,” he said. “But the mentality never changes.”
Osimhen missed two clear-cut opportunities in the second half but redeemed himself by scoring twice in extra time. He told his teammates he would “correct it,” and expressed relief that he did.
“Kudos to the guys who gave me the assist. I’m happy with the mentality of the team,” he added, praising the collective effort and the support from Nigerian fans worldwide.
Nigeria defeated Gabon at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco, with Akor Adams netting the opener, followed by Chidera Ejuke and two goals from Osimhen in extra time.
Looking ahead, the Galatasaray forward warned that the next stage will be tougher but promised full commitment.
“We will give everything to make sure we go to the final,” he said.
