Known for his signature sound and lyrical storytelling, Adebayo Oluwafemi Taiwo popularly called Danny Kuti is redefining hip-hop from Nigeria’s South-West, driven by faith, family, and raw talent.
Adebayo Oluwafemi Taiwo, popularly known by his stage name Danny Kuti (formerly Danny Tee), is fast gaining attention in Nigeria’s vibrant hip-hop scene. The multi-talented artist who writes, acts, produces, and plays multiple instruments has become a voice to watch in contemporary Nigerian music.
Danny Kuti, whose parents are pastors, describes himself as “a young man from a religious home with a hip-hop heart.” Despite his family’s conservative background, they have grown to embrace his passion for music. “It took a while, but now we’re cool they understand me better,” he shared.
His sound is distinct, often marked by his signature intro line:
“I go by the name NBN—Nachotbeatbaddestnigger—from the south to west side o sha mo.”
Danny Kuti’s artistry is deeply rooted in personal experience. “The lyrics of my songs are mostly about what I’m going through they’re my prayers in rhythm and rhyme,” he said.
He has collaborated with notable Nigerian acts including Otega, Oladips, Portable, and Eyinju, earning praise for his energetic performances and relatable lyrics. His earlier freestyle covers of Olamide Baddo’s hits attracted fans and boosted his credibility in the underground music scene.
A graduate of Forestry and Wildlife Management, Danny Kuti says his first love has always been music. “If I wasn’t doing music, I’d still be in entertainment,” he admits. Inspired by Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, he hopes to one day collaborate with Nigeria’s biggest stars.
Currently, he’s working on what he describes as his most ambitious project yet “RAP” a bold reintroduction of authentic hip-hop sounds to the Nigerian scene.
