Flamingos head coach Hakeem Busari Ishola has refused to allow Nigeria’s emphatic 6–0 victory over Guinea to become a source of complacency, insisting that the result represents another step in the team’s development journey rather than a reason to celebrate prematurely.
Speaking during the post-match interaction with journalists, Busari responded to a question from Omobolaji Sampson on what the performance says about the team beyond the scoreline and where the side is heading moving forward.
The coach described the win as “the beginning of another strategic game,” stressing that every match provides another opportunity to learn, improve, and build a more complete team.
Busari explained that while results remain important, equal attention must be given to the technical and developmental aspects of performance. He highlighted areas including movement, dribbling, decision-making, creating better attacking situations through intelligent play, and maintaining discipline across different phases of the game.
His comments reflected a calm and deliberate approach within the Flamingos camp, where performances are being treated as platforms for continuous improvement rather than isolated achievements.
Captain Chidera Harmony Chidi, who scored twice in the encounter, also shared an emotional post-match reflection, giving glory to God and acknowledging the encouragement and confidence instilled in the players by the coaching staff.
Together, the coach’s measured perspective and the captain’s heartfelt reaction captured a Nigerian team enjoying success while staying committed to consistency and long-term growth.
For the Flamingos, the message remains straightforward: impressive scorelines may attract attention, but continuous improvement is the standard that truly matters.
