Nigeria’s Dominant Display in Ikenne Highlights Youth Team’s Growing Confidence and Attacking Quality

Nigeria’s U17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance to defeat Guinea 6–0 at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, moving a step closer to securing qualification for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

From the opening exchanges, the Nigerian side displayed confidence, pace, and technical superiority, controlling possession and creating sustained pressure against the Guinean defence.

The Flamingos opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Oluwakemi Oluwaseyifumi Adegbuyi, whose early strike settled the team and provided the foundation for an impressive attacking display.

Captain Chidera Harmony Chidi doubled Nigeria’s lead midway through the first half, increasing the team’s dominance and energising the home crowd.

Nigeria quickly extended its advantage as Queen Joseph found the back of the net moments later to make it 3–0, leaving Guinea struggling to contain the hosts’ speed and movement in transition.

Adegbuyi continued her impressive outing by completing her brace before captain Chidi added another goal shortly after, sending Nigeria into halftime with a commanding 5–0 lead.

The Flamingos maintained control after the break, sustaining their attacking intensity while continuing to manage possession effectively. Substitute Precious Oscar capped off the dominant performance with Nigeria’s sixth goal late in the second half to seal the emphatic victory.

Beyond the scoreline, the encounter showcased Nigeria’s attacking depth, tactical discipline, and ability to maintain performance levels through squad rotation.

The result further strengthens the Flamingos’ position in their qualification campaign and builds momentum as attention turns to upcoming fixtures in pursuit of a place at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Officials and fans alike will be hoping the team can maintain the same level of consistency as the competition progresses.
