Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared insights into how he has successfully managed diabetes for more than four decades, emphasizing the importance of regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and adequate rest.
Speaking about his experience living with the condition, Obasanjo disclosed that he has been diagnosed with diabetes for over 40 years but has continued to manage it effectively through lifestyle discipline and consistent health practices.
According to the former president, one of the key aspects of his routine is regular physical activity. He revealed that he plays squash three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—whenever his schedule permits.
Obasanjo also stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, noting that food choices have a direct impact on overall wellbeing. He encouraged individuals living with diabetes and other health conditions to pay close attention to what they eat, adding that healthy meals can be both enjoyable and beneficial.
He further highlighted the role of adequate rest in maintaining good health, describing it as an essential component of long-term disease management.
Health experts have consistently identified exercise, balanced nutrition, routine medical monitoring, and sufficient rest as key factors in managing diabetes and reducing the risk of complications associated with the condition.
