EFCC Urges Nigerians to Report Online Money Requests From Strangers

Anti-graft agency warns against falling victim to internet fraud, advises immediate reporting of suspicious demands for money.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has advised Nigerians to be cautious of individuals they meet online who request money, urging members of the public to report such cases immediately.

The anti-graft agency warned that unsolicited requests for money from online acquaintances are often linked to internet fraud and other forms of financial scams.

"If someone you meet online asks for money, stop and report the person to the EFCC immediately," the Commission advised.

The EFCC urged Nigerians to verify the identities of people they interact with online and avoid sending money to individuals they have not met or properly confirmed.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime and financial fraud, encouraging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious online activities to help protect themselves and others from falling victim to scams.
