The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that it is considering conducting a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology systems, alongside a mock presidential election, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The proposed audit is expected to assess the performance, reliability and security of the commission's technology infrastructure, while the mock presidential poll would serve as a nationwide test of electoral processes and systems before the general elections.
According to INEC, the measures are designed to identify potential challenges, improve operational efficiency and enhance public confidence in the electoral process.
The commission said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen election management and ensure that its technology-driven systems are fully prepared ahead of the 2027 polls.
If approved, the exercise would mark one of INEC's most comprehensive pre-election assessments as it continues planning for a credible, transparent and efficient general election in 2027.
