Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed the long-standing perception that he and Lionel Messi are rivals off the pitch, insisting that the pair have always shared a relationship built on mutual respect despite years of competing for football's biggest honours.
The Portuguese superstar said many people wrongly assume there is animosity between them because of their fierce rivalry, but maintained that they have never had a bad relationship.
"People think Lionel Messi is my enemy, but we've never had a bad relationship," Ronaldo said.
