Esther Okereke Pledges 25,000MW Electricity Generation Within First 100 Days

National Rescue Movement presidential candidate promises a major power-sector expansion if elected president in 2027.

The presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Esther Okereke, has pledged to increase Nigeria's electricity generation capacity to 25,000 megawatts (MW) within her first 100 days in office if elected president in 2027.

Okereke made the promise while outlining her priorities for the power sector and broader economic development ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

She said achieving the target would be part of her administration's immediate efforts to address Nigeria's long-standing electricity challenges and provide more reliable power for households and businesses.

The pledge comes amid persistent concerns over inadequate electricity supply, limited generation capacity, transmission constraints and distribution challenges across the country.

Okereke said a significant improvement in electricity generation would help boost industrial activity, support businesses, create jobs and improve living standards.

Her proposed 25,000MW target would represent a substantial increase from Nigeria's existing power-generation levels, making its implementation a major undertaking requiring investment across generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The NRM candidate is expected to campaign on the proposed power-sector reforms as part of her broader agenda for the 2027 presidential election.
