Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has urged Nigerians to leave fallen electric poles and cables to qualified professionals whenever they are damaged during accidents or disasters.
Yusuf gave the advice in Series #129 of The Secure Mind, titled “Call Professionals When a Vehicle Accident Affects Poles and Electric Cables.”
He explained that vehicle collisions, storms and other natural disasters can damage electricity poles and bring power cables down, creating serious risks to people at the scene. He advised first responders and members of the public to keep people away from the affected area and immediately contact the appropriate electricity and emergency professionals.
Yusuf warned against touching, moving or attempting to clear fallen poles or electric cables, stressing that electricity may still be present even when there is no visible spark.
He also noted that wet ground can increase the risk of electrocution, making it particularly dangerous for untrained people to approach fallen electrical infrastructure.
The security expert urged individuals at accident scenes to focus on keeping themselves and others away from danger until qualified professionals have inspected the area and made it safe.
He stressed that well-intentioned attempts to help can result in additional casualties when people intervene without the necessary training or equipment.
“Leaving professionals to clear electric cables during accidents or disasters reduces casualties.”
He encouraged Nigerians to treat fallen electric cables as potentially live and to prioritise safety by keeping a safe distance and alerting the appropriate authorities.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
