Anambra Election 2025: International Observers, INEC Hail Peaceful, Transparent Polls


 Observers commend INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan and security agencies for smooth logistics, early deployment, and calm conduct across polling units in Anambra State.

International observers and civil society groups have praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful and well-organized conduct of the Anambra Governorship Election 2025.


According to a statement released by INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dayo Oketola, reports from the Commission’s Situation Room indicated improved voter turnout, smooth accreditation, and efficient use of the BVAS technology across the state.


Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke of the International Association of World Peace Advocates lauded the professionalism of INEC officials and security operatives.

“The process has been peaceful and well-managed. Accreditation is smooth, BVAS is functioning as expected, and officials are courteous and efficient,” he said while monitoring polling units in Awka.


Nkweke also commended security agencies for maintaining order. “The environment is calm and secure. We observed up to seven police officers at some units, and their conduct has been exemplary,” he added.


Civil society groups, including Yiaga Africa, echoed similar sentiments. Its Director of Programmes, Cynthia Mbamalu, noted early deployment of materials and personnel, saying, “Our observers reported arrival of officials by 7:30 am and voting commencement by 8:30 am a clear sign of INEC’s readiness.”


Speaking after casting his vote at Polling Unit 004, Umuechefu Hall, Igboukwu, Hon. Dominic Okafor of Aguata Federal Constituency praised the seamless process, describing it as “a reflection of INEC’s improved coordination.”


INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to credible elections.

“Our duty is to the Nigerian people. INEC is committed to ensuring that every valid vote counts and that the process remains credible, transparent, and peaceful,” he said.
