Delta Police Arrest Suspected Robber Who Hid Pistol Inside Loaf of Bread in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command says the 24-year-old suspect, identified as Stanley Chibuike, concealed a locally made Beretta pistol in bread to evade detection during a stop-and-search operation in Asaba.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Stanley Chibuike, who allegedly hid a pistol inside a loaf of bread in Asaba, the state capital.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, confirming that the suspect was intercepted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout on November 6, 2025.

According to Edafe, Chibuike’s suspicious behavior prompted officers to search him, leading to the discovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol carefully concealed inside the bread. The 24-year-old suspect was immediately taken into custody, and the weapon was recovered as evidence.

“The recovered pistol has been secured as an exhibit, while investigations are ongoing to determine his connection to recent cases of armed robbery and kidnapping within Asaba and nearby communities,” Edafe said.

Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi commended the officers for their vigilance, describing the arrest as a testament to the Command’s intelligence-led operations. He urged residents to stay alert and share credible information, assuring that all reports would be handled confidentially.

This arrest comes just days after the Command intercepted a Hiace bus loaded with codeine, tramadol, and other controlled substances at the Asaba toll gate on November 1, further emphasizing its crackdown on crime in the state.
