The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has barred the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), vigilante groups and other non-state security outfits from participating in security operations for Saturday's Osun State governorship election.
The directive means that Amotekun personnel and other non-state security groups will not be deployed as part of the official security arrangements for the election.
The police are expected to take the lead in maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process, alongside other recognised state security agencies.
The development comes as security preparations intensify ahead of the governorship election, with authorities expected to deploy personnel across polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations.
The restriction is aimed at ensuring that election security is handled by authorised security agencies and preventing the involvement of groups outside the formal security structure.
The police have also urged residents, political parties and other stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election.
