VIDEO- Tinubu: Teaching Stock Market Trading in Universities Can Build a Prosperous Nation

President says financial literacy and investment education could equip Nigerian undergraduates with skills to create wealth and contribute to national prosperity.

President Bola Tinubu has advocated the teaching of stock market trading and investment knowledge in Nigerian universities, saying financial education could help prepare young people to build wealth and contribute to the country's economic development.

Tinubu made the remarks while emphasising the importance of equipping Nigerian youths with practical financial and investment skills alongside conventional academic education.

"If we can teach stock market trading in the classroom to our undergraduates, we can build a nation filled with prosperity," the President said.

He stressed the need for young Nigerians to understand how financial markets work and develop the capacity to make informed investment decisions.

According to the President, exposing undergraduates to investment opportunities could encourage a culture of saving, entrepreneurship and wealth creation while reducing excessive dependence on traditional employment after graduation.

The proposal comes amid growing calls for greater financial literacy among Nigerian youths, particularly as digital investment platforms and opportunities in the capital market become increasingly accessible.

Tinubu's remarks also highlight the need for universities to complement academic qualifications with practical skills that can help graduates navigate the modern economy and participate actively in wealth creation.

Financial experts have consistently encouraged young people to acquire knowledge of investment risks, portfolio management and responsible financial planning before committing their funds to the stock market.

The President's call is therefore expected to fuel further discussions about incorporating financial literacy and investment education into Nigeria's tertiary education curriculum as part of broader efforts to build a financially informed and economically productive generation.
