LPPC Suspends Mike Ozekhome's SAN Rank Pending Disciplinary Proceedings

Senior lawyer barred from parading himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the conclusion of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

The Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank of constitutional lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome, pending the determination of disciplinary proceedings against him.

The decision was reached at the LPPC's 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026, and announced in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the Committee, Kabir Akanbi.

According to the committee, the suspension was approved pursuant to Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, pending the final determination of disciplinary proceedings before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee and other related proceedings.

The LPPC stated that the action is intended to protect the integrity, dignity and prestige of the SAN rank while the matters under review are being resolved. As a result, Ozekhome has been directed to refrain from presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded.

While the committee did not disclose the specific allegations before its disciplinary panel, Ozekhome has been involved in ongoing legal proceedings relating to an alleged London property dispute. The LPPC, however, maintained that its decision is an interim measure and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professional ethics, integrity and public confidence in Nigeria's legal profession.
